For our Volunteers
1. How can I volunteer for Night to Shine?
You can sign up to volunteer through the Night to Shine Treasure Coast website. Registration for volunteers typically opens a few months before the event. We welcome volunteers in a variety of roles, including serving as a “buddy” for guests or helping with activities, decorations, and event logistics.
2. What is a “buddy,” and what do they do?
A buddy is paired with one of our honored guests for the evening. Your role as a buddy is to accompany your guest throughout the night, ensuring they have a fun and memorable experience by participating in activities such as dancing, karaoke, photos, and more. Buddies are responsible for providing encouragement and companionship while ensuring the safety of their guests.
3. What other volunteer roles are available?
In addition to being a buddy, volunteers are needed for setup and cleanup, assisting with hair and makeup stations, helping with photography, serving food, managing the red carpet, greeting guests, and more. You can choose the role that best fits your skills and availability when you register.
4. Do volunteers need any special training?
Yes, all volunteers will attend a training session to ensure they understand their roles and how to best support the guests. The training will cover event logistics, safety protocols, and how to work with individuals with special needs. These trainings are:
January 28th at 6:00 at the Fenn Center OR January 30th at 10:00 at Genesis Community Church (6666 US1- Behind the St. Lucie Draft House).
5. Is there an age requirement to volunteer?
Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to be a Buddy. Some roles do allow for younger volunteers with adult supervision. Be sure to check specific details when registering, or contact the event team if you have questions about age limitations.
6. Do I need any prior experience working with individuals with special needs?
No prior experience is necessary to volunteer. We will provide the training and support you need to ensure you feel comfortable and prepared for the event. A caring heart, patience, and enthusiasm are the most important qualities for volunteers.
7. Can I volunteer with a group?
Yes, group volunteer opportunities are available! If you’re part of a school, church, business, or organization and would like to volunteer as a group, please contact the event team for details on how to register and assign roles.
8. What should I wear as a volunteer?
Volunteers, especially buddies, are encouraged to dress in formal or semi-formal attire, as it is a prom event. If you are working in another capacity (setup, logistics, etc.), please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. More detailed dress guidelines will be shared during training. No jeans will be permitted. Guests working in food service should wear all black.
9. Will there be food provided for volunteers?
Yes, food will be provided for volunteers after the event. There will be water stations and quick snacks available for the volunteers throughout the event.
10. What time do I need to arrive?
Volunteers are typically asked to arrive no later than 5:00 for final instructions and setup. Exact arrival times will be provided during your training or in a pre-event email specific to your role.
11. Who can I contact if I have more questions?
If you have any additional questions or need more information, please contact the Night to Shine Treasure Coast team. We're happy to help!
